Of the nearly 140 million children classified as orphans, 15.1 million have lost both parents. Evidence clearly shows that the vast majority of orphans are living with a surviving parent grandparent, or other family member. 95 per cent of all orphans are over the age of five.

If their immediate relatives cannot take responsibility for them, then taking care of them is a collective responsibility. This what the prophet Mohammed (s) encouraged when he said: "the one who takes care of an orphan will be with me in Jannah like this. Then he joined his index finger and his middle finger together. (Bukhari)"

Crisis Aid is working with a number of orphanages around the world, providing food, shelter, clothing and education. We can ensure your regular donations will reach them and that they benefit from your support. Crisis Aid will send you yearly reports of their well-being and progress in life. In some cases, you may be able to visit them also. Please visit the orphan pages and sponsor a child today.
