Fundraiser 1 of 2: Yemen’s water crisis
This year as part of our leadership programme we’re being challenged to fundraise for a charity & help the helpless. As a team, we then decided to help the country that’s currently experiencing the world’s BIGGEST humanitarian crisis but receives the most little support & awareness.
Due to the restrictions on fuel combined with the damage of pumps and sewage treatment facilities (which are essential for maintaining water supply) there’s now at LEAST 14.4 million people in Yemen that don’t have access to safe drinking water or for sanitary uses. This includes 8.2 million civilians who are in dire need of water. As a result, these helpless people are being forced to rely on untreated & unprotected water supplies and wells placing them at risk of developing life-threatening diseases.
To prevent situations like this from happening we decided to work with Crisis Aid so we can help them provide just one water tanker that can hold 50 barrels of water – this will provide for at least 50 families!!
*EDIT: Alhamdulillah as we’ve done so well we’re now aiming to raise £500 instead to provide for at least 100 families with 2 water tankers*
An outbreak of cholera and acute watery diarrhoea was declared 2 years ago. As of April 2017, over a million suspected cholera cases have been reported in Yemen. Due to the international blockade & reliance on imported medical supplies it has been difficult to contain & treat this outbreak.
Please help us help the helpless by donating as little as a few pounds. Every little helps so please donate and share the link.
Much appreciated – Maryam, Aisha, Rakya & Habibah
