Gift Aid It!

I would like Crisis Aid to treat this donation, any donations I have made in the last 4 years and any future donations until I notify otherwise as Gift Aid donations. I understand that if I pay less Income Tax and/or Capital Gains Tax than the amount of Gift Aid claimed on all my donations in that tax year it is my responsibility to pay any difference.

Donation Total: £50.00

Sahl ibn Sa’d reported: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “The one who cares for an orphan, he and myself will be together in Paradise like this,” and he held his two fingers together to illustrate.  Source: Sahih al-Bukhari 5659

My Story

Ovais Ahmed (Luton, UK)

In Ramadan 2018 whilst reflecting on myself I realised that all my life I had been a passenger when it came to charity. I was always contributing to projects but never took the initiative of developing one. I felt it was time to step up and use the skills I have accumulated over the years and make a difference.

The hadith above relating to the rewards for looking after orphans became the source of my inspiration. I decided now was the time I contributed back to this world to seek the pleasure of Allah and hope to build for myself and supporters of this orphanage a place in Paradise.

I teamed up with Crisis Aid and set off to Uganda in July 2018. The plan was to self fund an orphanage for about 20 children, however whilst travelling in Uganda and assessing the need, we decided to build an orphanage for 100 children.

Why Uganda?
  • One of the most undeveloped countries in the world
  • Over 20% of the population has no access to clean water
  • The rural areas contributed 86 per cent of the national poverty
  • There are over 2.7M children living in orphanages in Uganda – UNICEF 2018
  • Uganda is the world’s 3rd poorest country
Project Timeline
  • July 2018 – Land purchased (Completed)
  • Dec 2018 – Design agreed (Completed)
  • Feb 2019 – Contract the building works
  • April 2019 – Construction starts
  • Nov 2019 – Building works complete
  • Jan 2020 – Furnish and equip the building
  • March 2020 – Recruit operational staff
  • Feb 2020 – Open (IA)
