On August 14, torrential flooding and mudslides swept through Sierra Leone near the capital, Freetown. Thousands of people are missing and casualty numbers are increasing by the day. Being one of the poorest countries in the world, authorities in Sierra Leone are struggling with the recovery and relief efforts. Authorities are dependent on external assistance to help them cope with the magnitude of the disaster.
Crisis Aid will provide relief to survivors in the form of emergency supplies like food, water, and medicine in addition to longer-term recovery assistance. All donations to this fund will exclusively support local relief and recovery efforts from this flood.
Our partners on the ground in Freetown, are providing assistance where they can however they are in urgent need of funds to meet survivors’ immediate needs for food, fuel, clean water, hygiene products, and shelter. Once initial relief work is complete, this fund will transition to support longer-term recovery efforts and rebuilding the broken lives of those affected by this calamity.
