East Africa Drought Appeal

The worst drought in over half a century has hit parts of East Africa affecting more than 10 million people. Thousands of families have travelled for days in search of water across scorched scrubland, including barefoot children with no provisions after their crops and livestock were destroyed by drought.

The UN has declared an emergency crisis and called upon the international aid community to raise £ billions to save the lives of millions of desperate people in East Africa.

Somalia is one of the worst affected areas where:

• 6.2 million people, are facing acute food insecurity and in need of urgent humanitarian assistance.

• 185,000 children are expected to suffer from severe acute malnutrition this year, this figure is expected to rise to 270,000 in the next few months.

Crisis Aid is responding to the famine in East Africa taking a holistic approach. We plan to deliver water and food to the worst affected rural areas in Somalia. As our normal practice our own team will be supervising the distribution of aid to ensure it goes to the most desperate of people.

Crisis Aid intends to take 100 water tankers to remote villages suffering in this drought. We will fill their wells with this fresh clean water, the local people will benefit from it as well as the nomads.

One water tanker holds 50 barrels of water it costs £300. Please sponsor a water tanker. If you cannot sponsor a complete water tanker then please contribute a third or half of its cost.

The Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) said:

“The most best sadaqa (charity) you can give is water” (Musnad Imam Ahmed)

He (Peace be upon him) also said:

‘Whosoever feeds his brother bread until he is satisfied, and gives him water until he quenches his thirst, Allah will move him away from the fire of Hell by seven trenches; the distance between two trenches is that of 500 years (travelling).’ [Mustadrak al Hakim]

Food Parcel

Food is also scarce, because the crops have not grown due to the drought. Many people are suffering, going without food for 10-18 days in some cases. Children are suffering from malnutrition, which cause a number of illnesses and even death. Crisis Aid is aiming to provide food parcels for as many families as possible. Each food parcel will contain the staple diet of the locals and last them at least a month. One food parcel will cost £60. Please donate generously.

Allah said in the Quran: “ and whatever you do for the sake of Allah you will find it with Allah..”

Please donate generously for a water tanker, or part of a water tanker or donate for food parcels by clicking on the link below.
