When to Pay Fitrana
Zakat al-Fitr (Fitrana) must be paid before Eid prayer. Give early to ensure the poor benefit in time. Crisis Aid helps you fulfil this obligation with ease.
The Best Time to Pay Fitrana in Islam
Fitrana, also known as Zakat al-Fitr, is a compulsory charity that every eligible Muslim must pay before the Eid al-Fitr prayer. Its purpose is to purify the fasting person from any shortcomings during Ramadan and to provide for those in need, so they too can celebrate Eid with dignity.
The timing of Fitrana is essential. It should be given before the Eid prayer on the morning of Eid. You may begin paying it a day or two before Eid—during the final nights of Ramadan—but it must be paid before the prayer starts. If given after the Eid prayer, it is no longer counted as Zakat al-Fitr but as regular Sadaqah.
As narrated by Ibn Abbas (RA), the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said that Zakat al-Fitr is made obligatory to purify the fasting person from idle talk and wrongdoing and to feed the poor. He added that whoever gives it before the prayer, it is accepted as Zakat, and whoever gives it after, it is considered ordinary charity.
To fulfil your obligation and receive the full spiritual reward, it’s best to pay your Fitrana early—allowing time for it to reach the poor before Eid begins. Give with intention. Give on time. And help make Eid a joyful day for all.
